SaskPower Proposes 3.9% Rate Increases for 2026 and 2027 Amid Rising Operational Costs
SaskPower has proposed a 3.9% rate increase for both 2026 and 2027, resulting in an average monthly rise of $5 for residential customers and $11 for farm customers. The increases, driven by rising operational costs, inflation, and increased electricity demand, are subject to public review. Additionally, the government announced $900 million for coal fleet revitalization amid significant cost increases for new natural gas plants.

SaskPower announced a proposed 3.9% rate increase effective February 1, 2026, followed by another 3.9% increase on February 1, 2027. This proposal, subject to public review, will result in average residential customer increases of $5 per month and $11 for average farm customers in both years.
The rate application is driven by investments in transmission projects, increased operating and maintenance expenses, and inflationary pressures. SaskPower is also facing increased demand for electricity and rising fuel costs.
Minister Jeremy Harrison announced $900 million for coal fleet revitalization, while costs for new natural gas plants have significantly increased, with the Aspen Power Station projected to cost $1.7 billion. SaskPower aims to balance necessary investments with rate affordability.
