Satellite Imagery Reveals Progress on Concrete Sarcophagus at Iran's Taleghan 2 Facility
Recent satellite imagery shows significant progress on a concrete sarcophagus at Iran's Taleghan 2 facility, with most of the structure encased in concrete by mid-January 2026. The site, which is linked to Iran's nuclear weapons development, features enhanced security measures, including a newly constructed high-security wall and an anti-aircraft site. Additionally, earth piles are being added above the facility, likely for future burial to protect against airstrikes.

Recent satellite imagery indicates that construction of a concrete sarcophagus around the Taleghan 2 facility at the Parchin military site has advanced significantly, rendering the facility unrecognizable. By December 25, 2025, the main building, which resembles a high explosive test chamber, was being covered with concrete.
By mid-January 2026, the majority of the facility was encased in concrete, including adjacent entrance portals. A new structure under construction may provide additional passive defense. The area is enclosed by a high-security wall, and a concrete batch plant has been established for construction needs.
Earth piles are accumulating above the facility, likely for future burial, enhancing protection from airstrikes. Additionally, Iran has reactivated an anti-aircraft site and constructed two new positions since July 2025, reflecting upgrades to active defense capabilities at the site, which has historical significance in Iran's nuclear weapons development.
