Seattle Startup Develops Laser-Powered Weeding Robots with Nvidia Technology
Carbon Robotics, founded in 2018, has developed machines that eliminate weeds using lasers instead of chemicals. Their technology is operational in fifteen countries, leveraging Nvidia GPUs for enhanced AI capabilities.

Carbon Robotics has deployed laser-based weeding machines in fifteen countries, utilizing Nvidia GPUs for AI-driven plant recognition. The LaserWeeder, designed to attach to tractors, scans fields with cameras to differentiate between crops and weeds, targeting the meristem of weeds to inhibit their growth.
This method avoids chemical herbicides and preserves soil structure, contrasting with traditional tillage. Established by Paul Mikesell after discussions with farmers about their challenges, these machines represent a significant innovation in sustainable agriculture, potentially reducing reliance on chemical treatments.
