Selangor Advances Nuclear Energy Strategy Amid Energy Diversification Efforts
The Selangor government is prioritizing nuclear energy as part of its strategy to diversify the energy mix, aiming for a more resilient power supply. Key initiatives under Budget 2026 will assess readiness for nuclear development and enhance local expertise.

The Selangor government plans to accelerate nuclear energy initiatives, shortening development timelines from five to three years. This effort is part of a broader strategy to reduce dependence on conventional energy sources like gas and coal while promoting alternatives such as solar, hydrogen, and biodiesel.
A RM130.42 million Resilience Strengthening Package will launch in June to aid households and businesses amid the global energy crisis. Additionally, the state will advance other initiatives, including a mini hydrogen plant in Hulu Selangor, and two waste-to-energy plants with a combined capacity of 90 megawatts to enhance energy resilience. These developments could position Selangor as a leader in energy transition in Malaysia.
