Senators Schumer and Gillibrand Secure $10 Million for Genesee County Water Storage Tank Project
U.S. Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced $10 million in federal funding for Genesee County to construct a new 2.5-million-gallon water storage tank in Batavia, aimed at increasing drinking water capacity.
This funding is part of the FY 2026 spending bill currently under consideration. Genesee County was declared a drought disaster area in 2024, suffering from low groundwater levels and water quality issues.
The existing 1.5-million-gallon tank will be replaced to alleviate supply challenges that have led to emergency restrictions. The project will enhance the county's water infrastructure, supplying approximately 40 percent of Genesee County's drinking water and supporting local residents, farms, and businesses. The funding authorization was secured three years ago through the Water Resources Development Act of 2022 and will be administered by the Army Corps of Engineers.
