Senegal Launches National Plan to Reduce Methane and Short-Lived Climate Pollutants

NATURAL GAS

Senegal has launched a national initiative to reduce methane and short-lived climate pollutants, which constitute about one-third of its greenhouse gas emissions. The project, in collaboration with the Climate & Clean Air Coalition, aims for a 30% reduction in methane emissions by 2030.

The National Short-Lived Climate Pollutant Plan and National Methane Mitigation Roadmap will assess emissions and guide mitigation actions. The initiative supports Senegal's updated Nationally Determined Contribution under the Paris Agreement while promoting public health and economic resilience. The program includes regional cooperation and technical support, emphasizing the interconnectedness of climate issues across Africa.
