Serangan Indigenous Community Opposes LNG Project Environmental Permit
The Serangan Indigenous Community and local fishermen have publicly opposed the environmental permit for the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) LNG project in Bali, citing concerns over procedural issues and risks to their livelihoods. Following the Indonesian Ministry of Environment's approval of the project, the community criticized the lack of meaningful dialogue in the permitting process, asserting that it ignored their rights and local wisdom.

On January 20, 2026, the Serangan Indigenous Community and local fishermen publicly opposed the environmental permit for the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) LNG project in Serangan waters, citing procedural and substantive issues. The protest followed the issuance of the environmental feasibility decision by the Indonesian Ministry of Environment on October 31, 2025, for a LNG terminal in Bali.
The community expressed concerns over risks to their livelihoods and safety, emphasizing that the ocean is vital for their social and cultural existence. They criticized the lack of meaningful dialogue in the permitting process, claiming it disregarded their rights and local wisdom.
