Serbia Initiates Trial Operations for Desulphurisation Unit at TENT B Power Plant
Serbia's EPS has launched trial operations for a €250mn flue gas desulphurisation unit at the Nikola Tesla B power plant, aiming to significantly reduce sulphur dioxide emissions. This project represents a major investment to align with European environmental standards and enhance air quality in the region.

On April 6, Serbia's state power utility EPS began trial operations of a flue gas desulphurisation unit at the Nikola Tesla B coal-fired power plant. The €250mn investment, supported by Japanese partners like Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, aims to reduce sulphur dioxide emissions by up to 30 times.
The facility employs wet limestone technology, producing approximately 200,000 tonnes of gypsum annually, contributing to circular economy goals. EPS anticipates improved air quality for Belgrade, while also planning to achieve 45% renewable electricity generation by 2030. This upgrade is crucial for extending the operational lifespan of existing infrastructure amid pressure to modernize and reduce emissions.
