Serbia Plans Gas Pipeline to Croatia's Krk LNG Terminal with €60 Million Budget by 2031
Serbia is set to construct a gas pipeline connecting to Croatia's Krk Island LNG terminal, with an estimated cost of €60 million and completion expected by 2031. Croatian Economic Minister Ante Šušnjar announced the project, which has elicited interest from both countries.
Despite being included in Serbia's future energy projects, the gas interconnector is not a current priority compared to pipelines planned with Romania and North Macedonia. The pipeline will span 95 kilometers from the gospođinci junction to the Bačko Novo Selo border crossing.
Experts advocate for the project, citing energy security, but caution that the Krk terminal's capacity of approximately six billion cubic meters may not suffice for Serbia's needs alongside other regional consumers. Serbia is focusing on existing infrastructure plans, particularly connections to Romania and North Macedonia, which promise larger gas supplies.
