Serbia to Complete Nuclear Program Studies by Mid-2027 with EDF Partnership
The Serbian Ministry of Mining and Energy will finalize studies for a nuclear program by mid-2027. A preliminary study, developed with EDF, outlines the potential for nuclear energy to enhance Serbia's energy security and reduce import dependence. Legislative and regulatory frameworks will be established in phases, with a goal to select technology by 2032 and have a nuclear power plant operational around 2040. Serbia's moratorium on nuclear power was lifted in November 2024, allowing for this development.

The Serbian government plans to complete studies necessary for a nuclear program by mid-2027. A preliminary technical study, prepared with EDF, indicates nuclear energy could be essential for Serbia's energy security.
The program's implementation will occur in three phases, addressing 19 infrastructure issues. Phase 1 includes legislative development and capacity assessments, while Phase 2 will focus on reactor selection and contracting.
Serbia aims to choose the nuclear technology by 2032, with a target for the power plant to be operational by 2040. The country's moratorium on nuclear power was lifted in November 2024.
