Severn Trent Water Contributes £2.1M for River Trent Environmental Projects
Severn Trent Water Limited has committed £2.1 million to the Trent Rivers Trust for environmental restoration projects following three pollution incidents. This funding, via Enforcement Undertakings, aims to enhance water quality and restore habitats in affected waterways, crucial for biodiversity and ecosystem resilience.

The Environment Agency has confirmed Enforcement Undertakings totaling £2.1 million from Severn Trent Water Limited for environmental remediation efforts in the River Trent catchment. The funding breakdown includes £1 million for a discharge incident at Sutton-in-Ashfield sewage treatment works, £600,000 for a sewage discharge from Alfreton Highfields, and £500,000 for exceedances at Marehay Wastewater Treatment Works.
Trent Rivers Trust will utilize these funds for habitat restoration, improving water quality, and addressing barriers in the river systems. Initial surveys indicate the presence of salmon in some affected watercourses, highlighting the potential for ecological recovery. The initiatives are essential for preventing future pollution incidents and enhancing compliance with environmental standards.
