Shell Acquires ARC Resources for $13.6 Billion to Enhance North American Operations
Shell Plc has agreed to purchase ARC Resources Ltd. for $13.6 billion, marking its largest acquisition in over a decade. This deal aims to bolster Shell's oil and gas reserves and enhance production capacity, particularly in North America's Montney shale basin.

Shell Plc is set to acquire ARC Resources Ltd. for $13.6 billion, with the transaction expected to close in the second half of 2026, contingent on necessary approvals. The deal includes a 20% premium to ARC's 30-day weighted average share price and will add approximately 370,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day to Shell's production.
This acquisition aligns with Shell's strategy to enhance its resource base and is projected to increase production growth from 1% to 4% annually through 2030. Additionally, it will support output from Shell's 40% stake in the LNG Canada facility. This move signifies a strategic pivot back to North American shale after previous divestments and may improve energy security and supply stability in the region.
