Shell Acquires ARC Resources for $16.4 Billion to Boost Shale Production
Shell's acquisition of ARC Resources for approximately $16.4 billion aims to enhance its shale gas and liquid production in Canada, particularly in the Montney basin. This strategic move is set to significantly increase Shell's annual free cash flow and secure its hydrocarbon production levels into the next decade.

Shell has agreed to acquire ARC Resources for $16.4 billion, including $13.6 billion in equity and $2.8 billion in net debt. This acquisition is expected to add 370,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day to Shell's production and enhance its resource base in Canada, particularly in Alberta and British Columbia.
The deal is projected to finalize in the second half of 2026, contingent on regulatory approvals. Shell's current production stands at 2.8 million barrels of oil equivalent per day, while ARC's contribution is anticipated to bolster their existing assets near LNG Canada. This acquisition marks Shell's largest since the BG Group purchase in 2016 and highlights its renewed focus on core oil and gas operations amidst a need to replenish aging reserves.
