Shield Space Secures £2M Funding for Satellite Protection Technology in the UK
UK defense tech startup Shield Space has raised £2 million to develop its autonomous satellite protection system, with the first orbital test flight planned for early 2027. The funding round was led by the Midlands Engine Investment Fund II through Mercia Ventures, alongside participation from Twin Path Ventures, ROI Ventures, and P3A Ventures.
The company aims to enhance satellite defense against increasing threats such as jamming and physical attacks, with an estimated 220 counterspace systems currently operational in orbit. Founded in 2025 by Graeme Ritchie and Dan Molland, Shield Space plans to expand its operations in Lincoln and hire five new employees. The funding will allow the company to conduct its initial test flight, which is viewed as a critical step in validating autonomous safeguarding for military and commercial satellites.
