Shimadzu and Astellas Launch Robotic HTE System for Drug Development
Shimadzu Corp. and Astellas Pharma Inc. have developed a robotic high-throughput experimentation system, AtmosOrchestra, for drug screening. This system enhances the efficiency of synthesizing small- and mid-sized molecules, addressing bottlenecks in the experimental phase.

The AtmosOrchestra system, installed at Astellas's Tsukuba Research Center, automates sample synthesis in pharmaceutical development, capable of processing up to 768 samples in a single run. This robotic system includes eight heating and stirring modules, an LC autosampler, and three dispensing units, allowing unattended operation and supporting overnight and holiday functions.
Designed for CMC research, it assesses parameters like catalysts and temperatures to optimize yield and reduce impurities. It operates within a nitrogen-purged reaction chamber to protect sensitive compounds from oxygen and moisture. This collaboration aligns with Shimadzu's analytical transformation initiative, which leverages AI and robotics to improve laboratory workflows.
