Shoreline Foundation Begins Piling Tests for Naples Pier Reconstruction Funded by FEMA
DEFENSE
Shoreline Foundation is conducting piling tests for the reconstruction of Naples Pier, following a $23.5 million contract awarded for the project. Demolition of the pier, which suffered extensive damage from Hurricane Ian on September 28, 2022, began on January 6, 2023, and is expected to take six months.
Construction of the new pier, featuring larger and taller pilings, is anticipated to take 18 months. The project faced delays due to design discussions and the final permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, issued in October 2022, over three years after the hurricane. Funding from FEMA, totaling more than $12.6 million, was also secured in December 2022.
