Sikorsky Unveils Nomad VTOL UAS for Defense and Civilian Applications
Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company, has introduced the Nomad series of vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) designed for reconnaissance and light attack missions in rugged environments. The Nomad family was revealed in October 2025, with the Nomad 100 variant set for initial flight trials.
Key developments include a demonstrator based on the Nomad 50 achieving over 40 vertical take-offs and landings by January 2025, and validating advanced control laws for operation in both vertical and fixed-wing modes by March 2025. The UAS is battery-powered, weighs around 52kg, and features hybrid-electric propulsion.
Nomad platforms utilize MATRIX technology for optionally piloted operations, enhancing mission effectiveness and safety. The flexible design allows for various configurations, including light attack, search and rescue, and maritime patrol, making it suitable for defense and civilian users.
