Singapore's Home Team to Launch Satellite for Hazardous Gas Detection by 2029
In 2029, Singapore's Home Team plans to launch the Xplorer satellite to enhance public safety by detecting hazardous gas plumes. This initiative, developed by the Home Team Science & Technology Agency, aims to improve response times for the Singapore Civil Defence Force during emergencies.

The Home Team's satellite, named Xplorer, will weigh approximately 100kg and will be positioned in near equatorial orbit. Equipped with hyperspectral long-wave infrared and electro-optical sensors, it will detect hazardous gases such as ammonia.
The project involves collaboration with ST Engineering and the National Space Agency of Singapore (NSAS). Additionally, the Home Team is advancing AI capabilities through partnerships with NVIDIA and Mistral AI, and will launch the Home Team Humanoid Robotics Centre in September.
The Milipol TechX Summit is taking place from April 28 to 30, attracting over 15,000 participants from 75 countries, focusing on technology's role in public safety and cybersecurity challenges. Singapore's approach emphasizes proactive investment in technology to counteract potential threats.
