Sion Power Expands Licerion® Lithium-Metal Battery Technology for U.S. Defense and Aerospace Applications
Sion Power is expanding its Licerion® lithium-metal battery technology program to produce high-energy battery cells for U.S. defense and aerospace systems. The lithium-metal cells offer energy densities exceeding 500 Wh/kg, significantly higher than conventional lithium-ion batteries. This advancement aims to enhance mission endurance, operational range, and payload capacity for unmanned and autonomous systems. Sion Power plans to begin initial product shipments in late 2026 from its Tucson, Arizona facility.

The new lithium-metal cells are designed to achieve energy densities over 500 Wh/kg, surpassing conventional lithium-ion technologies.
This innovation aims to address the increasing demands for longer endurance and higher payload in defense platforms. Sion Power is set to begin initial product shipments from its Tucson, Arizona facility in late 2026, aligning with U.S. policy initiatives supporting domestic advanced energy systems.
