Sistema.bio Secures $53 Million for FarmCarbon to Finance Biodigesters and Reduce Methane Emissions
Sistema.bio has raised $53 million to launch FarmCarbon, a carbon financing initiative aimed at supporting smallholder farmers in methane reduction through biodigester adoption. Led by BNP Paribas Asset Management, British International Investment, and the Shell Foundation, the initiative plans to finance over 90,000 biodigesters globally, targeting emissions reductions of over 9 million tonnes of CO₂. FarmCarbon utilizes pre-financing for biogas projects, allowing farmers to access future carbon credit values upfront and improve agricultural productivity.

Sistema.bio has launched FarmCarbon with $53 million in funding to provide climate finance directly to smallholder farmers for biodigester implementation. The funding was led by BNP Paribas Asset Management with contributions from British International Investment and the Shell Foundation.
The initiative aims to deploy over 90,000 biodigesters, targeting methane emissions reduction equivalent to over 9 million tonnes of CO₂. FarmCarbon's pre-financing model allows farmers to access future carbon credit values upfront, promoting energy efficiency and climate resilience. The initiative aims to mobilize over $1 billion in climate finance over the next decade.
