Slovakia Plans to Acquire Four Additional F-16V Fighter Jets to Strengthen Air Defense
Slovakia plans to acquire four additional F-16V Block 70/72 Viper fighter jets to enhance its air defense capabilities after transferring its entire MiG-29 fleet to Ukraine. Prime Minister Robert Fico announced this intention during a recent visit to the U.S.
The Slovak government aims to fill defense gaps resulting from the transfer and has requested four to eight aircraft, with U.S. approval for the sale already in place. Despite this, experts are skeptical about the delivery timeline, citing significant delays from the initial 2018 contract and Lockheed Martin's production backlog for other countries, particularly Taiwan. The recent statements may refer to the final batch of previously ordered jets rather than new aircraft.
