Slovakia's acquisition of CV90 MkIV infantry fighting vehicles, formalized in December 2022, includes a €1.3 billion contract for 152 CV9035 units. This shift from Soviet-era systems aims to align with NATO standards and enhance operational capabilities.
Over 30 Slovak companies participate, contributing more than 40% of the contract value, which supports local supply chains and maintenance capacity. Testing is underway in Sweden, with first deliveries expected in 2026.
The CV9035 MkIV features a 35 mm Bushmaster III cannon and the Iron Fist active protection system, improving survivability against modern threats. Designed for high tactical mobility, the vehicle can operate effectively in Central European terrains. This program highlights a broader European trend toward modernizing land forces and strengthening NATO's deterrent posture amid evolving security challenges.
