Slovenia Launches First Highway Solar Power Plant by DARS
Slovenia's Družba za Avtoceste (DARS) has inaugurated its first solar power plant on a noise barrier at the Šmarje Sap West rest area, part of a strategy to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions by 30% by 2030. The generated electricity will support DARS's operations, including public lighting and tunnel systems, while plans for further solar projects are underway. This initiative aligns with similar efforts in neighboring countries and marks the beginning of DARS's commitment to sustainable energy solutions.

Družba za Avtoceste v Republiki Sloveniji (DARS) has opened Slovenia's first solar power plant on a noise barrier at the Šmarje Sap West rest area, located approximately ten kilometers from Ljubljana. This project is part of DARS's strategy for sustainable development, aiming to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions by 30% by 2030.
The electricity generated will be used for DARS's own needs, including public lighting and tunnel systems, enhancing energy independence. DARS plans to expand solar energy projects, including larger installations in degraded areas and PV systems along highways.
The initiative follows similar developments in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Croatia. DARS has established an energy department and initiated the first phase of solar installations at its facilities, targeting a total capacity of 420 kW.
