Sona ChipIN Centre Launched in Tamil Nadu to Enhance Semiconductor Education
The Sona ChipIN Centre, supported by MeitY, was inaugurated to advance semiconductor design and VLSI research in India. This initiative aligns with the government's goal of producing a 'Made in India' chip within 24-36 months and creating 85,000 industry-ready professionals in chip design.

The Sona ChipIN Centre at Sona College of Technology, Tamil Nadu, was inaugurated to boost India's semiconductor ecosystem under the Chips to Startup (C2S) programme by MeitY. The facility features Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools worth Rs 100 million, facilitating semiconductor design and VLSI research training for students and faculty.
The centre aims to develop a 'Made in India' chip in 24-36 months, supporting the India Semiconductor Mission. It will also produce industry-ready semiconductor engineers across various engineering programs. The C2S Programme, launched in 2022, has a budget of Rs 250 crore to expand academic capabilities in chip design, targeting the training of 85,000 professionals.
