SONABEL Advances 20-30 MW Koudougou Solar Project in Burkina Faso
SONABEL has initiated the EPC contract for a solar PV plant in Koudougou, aiming for 20-30 MW capacity. This project is part of a broader 30 MW solar initiative to enhance domestic energy generation and security. The development supports Burkina Faso's strategy to expand renewable energy amidst ongoing electricity shortages and involves procurement managed by SONABEL with support from Banque Ouest Africaine de Développement.

SONABEL, Burkina Faso's state energy utility, is advancing a solar photovoltaic plant project in Koudougou with a capacity of 20-30 MW. This initiative aims to enhance the country's generation capacity and energy security.
Tenders for equipment have been issued, and the project includes supply and installation of solar PV equipment and construction of related transmission infrastructure. The Koudougou project is part of a strategic 30 MW solar initiative, despite previous contract cancellations due to security issues.
SONABEL is managing procurement directly, with involvement from Banque Ouest Africaine de Développement. The project aligns with a national energy strategy that includes building new thermal power plants and improving electricity access across regions.
