Sorin Grindeanu Questions SAFE Program Funding Transparency as Speaker of Romanian Chamber of Deputies
Sorin Grindeanu, Speaker of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies, expressed concern over his lack of knowledge regarding the SAFE program funding, stating he learned about it from sources rather than coalition partners. He questioned the allocation of approximately 16 billion euros for the defense industry, noting only 4 billion is earmarked for military mobility and highway construction. Grindeanu emphasized the necessity of investing in Romania's defense industry, amidst uncertainty about how the borrowed funds will be utilized.

Sorin Grindeanu, Speaker of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies, stated he is unaware of the SAFE program's funding details, learning about it from unofficial sources. He highlighted that while 4 billion euros out of a total of 16 billion euros is allocated for military mobility and highway construction, he does not know where the remaining 12 billion euros will go.
Grindeanu asserted the importance of investing in Romania's defense industry and questioned the transparency of the program's funding. The SAFE instrument is a new EU financial mechanism designed to support member states in investing in defense through joint public procurement.
