If re-elected, the South Australia Labor government will launch a competitive tender for renewable energy projects covering more than 11,000 km² under the Hydrogen and Renewable Energy Act. The tender, set to open at the end of March for 13 weeks, aims to facilitate projects capable of powering over 500,000 homes.
The areas designated for development include approximately 5,200 km² in the Upper Eyre Peninsula and 6,500 km² in the Upper Spencer Gulf. The state currently holds a 75% share in wind and solar energy and aims for 100% net renewables by 2027. The plans were finalized prior to the government entering caretaker mode for the March 21 election.
