South Korea and Canada Sign Military Information Protection Agreement and Initiate Defense Cooperation Talks
South Korea and Canada have signed an Agreement on the Protection of Military and Defense Classified Information and begun negotiations on a Defense Cooperation Agreement. The two nations aim to enhance cooperation in space, artificial intelligence, and regional security. This agreement establishes procedures for protecting exchanged classified military information and facilitates private sector participation in government procurement. The meeting also addressed global strategic cooperation and non-conventional security challenges.

The ministers from both countries, during their 2+2 meeting in Ottawa, emphasized enhancing cooperation in space and AI sectors amid rising geopolitical tensions. They discussed the need for strategic communication in the Indo-Pacific region and addressed emerging security challenges. The meeting followed the South Korea-Canada Summit in October 2025.
