South Korea and Ghana Enhance Maritime Security and Climate Cooperation
STRATEGIC MINERALSDEFENSE
During a summit in Seoul, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama agreed to enhance cooperation in maritime security, climate change, and agriculture. Key agreements included a climate cooperation pact aligned with the Paris Agreement and a memorandum of understanding between the Korea Coast Guard and the Ghana Navy to combat piracy in the Gulf of Guinea.
Bilateral trade is approximately $240 million annually, with discussions on joint exploration of critical minerals such as lithium and nickel. Mahama's visit marks the first by an African leader since Lee took office in June 2025.
