South Korea and Qatar Discuss Expansion of Economic Cooperation in Defense and Energy
President Lee Jae Myung of South Korea and Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar discussed enhancing bilateral economic cooperation in defense, energy, and infrastructure during a phone call. This marked their second conversation since July 2022.
Lee expressed a desire to expand collaboration across various sectors, while Emir Tamim acknowledged South Korea's contributions to Qatar's national development within their comprehensive strategic partnership. Lee requested continued support for Korean companies in Qatar.
The leaders agreed to meet in person soon to further strengthen bilateral relations. South Korea and Qatar established diplomatic relations in 1974, upgrading them to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2023. Qatar is South Korea's largest supplier of liquefied natural gas.
