South Korea Develops MGOsyn to Reduce Methane Emissions in Cattle
The MGOsyn feed additive cuts methane emissions from hanwoo cattle by over 14%, surpassing national certification standards.

A feed additive named MGOsyn has been developed in South Korea, achieving over a 14% reduction in methane emissions from hanwoo cattle. This figure exceeds the national certification threshold of 10%, paving the way for potential commercialization.
The additive was created over four years by analyzing over 100 substances and optimizing its formula. In laboratory tests, it demonstrated a methane generation reduction of up to 61%. Jeongnong Bio is preparing to apply for national certification, with the product projected to lower greenhouse gas emissions by 520,000 metric tons annually. The initiative aims to transition into industrial use through demonstrations and corporate partnerships, indicating a significant step toward sustainable livestock management.
