South Korea Explores Semiconductor Cluster Relocation Amid AI Powerhouse Vision
South Korea's mayors of Yongin and Hwaseong have unveiled a transportation plan to bolster the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster, while President Lee Jae-myung has raised concerns about its viability and potential relocation for improved energy access. The government is also considering new nuclear power plants and aims to increase nuclear utilization to 89% this year, alongside KEPCO's efforts to enhance energy infrastructure and renewable projects.

The mayors of Yongin and Hwaseong announced a transportation development plan, including the Namsa Tunnel, to support the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster. President Lee Jae-myung questioned the cluster's viability and considered relocating it for better energy access.
The government is also reviewing plans for new nuclear power plants, with public surveys underway, while aiming to increase nuclear utilization to 89% this year. Meanwhile, KEPCO is advancing energy infrastructure and renewable projects, including the West Coast Energy Highway, amid debates over the future of the semiconductor cluster and energy policy.
