South Korean Catholics Hold Masses Against Nuclear Power Ahead of Fukushima Anniversary
Catholics in Seoul are conducting public Masses opposing nuclear power expansion in light of the upcoming 15th anniversary of the Fukushima disaster. The 'Gwanghwamun Mass Against Nuclear Power Plants' series runs from February 13 to March 6, aiming to halt the extension of aging nuclear plants and reconsider new projects. The opening Mass took place in Jongno-gu, Seoul, with clergy and lay faithful expressing concerns over government nuclear policies and advocating for renewable energy alternatives.

Catholics in Seoul have initiated the 'Gwanghwamun Mass Against Nuclear Power Plants,' a series of public Masses from February 13 to March 6, ahead of the 15th anniversary of the Fukushima disaster on March 11. The opening Mass was held in Jongno-gu, Seoul, focusing on halting the extension of aging nuclear plants and reconsidering new nuclear projects.
Father Yang Ki-seok criticized the government’s nuclear policy and proposed renewable energy alternatives like solar and wind power. The initiative also includes a call for ecological awareness and the protection of human dignity, culminating in a Mass for denuclearization led by Bishop Kang Woo-il on March 11.
