South Tahoe PUD Completes Largest Solar Array in Tahoe Basin
The South Tahoe Public Utility District (STPUD) is hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 29 for its new solar array, which will generate approximately 2 million kilowatt-hours annually. This project will significantly reduce electricity costs and enhance energy independence for the district's wastewater treatment plant.

STPUD's new solar array, the largest in the Tahoe Basin, will provide stable and cost-effective energy for its wastewater treatment facility. Expected to generate around 2 million kilowatt-hours each year, the array will offset approximately one-third of the plant's energy usage.
The project, developed through a Power Purchase Agreement, incurs no upfront costs to ratepayers and will result in energy payments at about half the current utility rate. Collaborative efforts with local agencies facilitated this initiative, which aligns with STPUD's sustainability goals, including potential future battery storage enhancements. The solar array symbolizes a commitment to environmental stewardship and financial responsibility.
