Spain Installs 42-Meter Wave Energy Converter MARMOK-A-5 in Atlantic
The MARMOK-A-5, a 42-meter wave energy converter, has been deployed off the coast of Bizkaia, Spain, marking a significant step in renewable energy technology. Developed by IDOM under the EuropeWave program, the project aims to commercialize wave energy technology, supported by over €22.5 million in funding.

The MARMOK-A-5 is designed to harness wave energy, featuring two 15 kW turbines for a total output of approximately 30 kW. Currently in offshore commissioning, the device is connected to the Biscay Marine Energy Platform (BiMEP) and undergoing performance testing.
This period includes data collection to assess performance and maintenance needs. Innovations include controllable turbine blades and advanced control systems compared to its predecessor tested from 2016 to 2019.
The EuropeWave program, with funding from various sources, aims to facilitate the transition of wave energy technologies to commercial viability. Successful deployment may encourage further investment in renewable energy infrastructure.
