Spain's CIUDEN Completes Tests on Europe's Largest Vanadium Battery Energy Storage System
CIUDEN has announced the completion of tests on Europe's largest vanadium battery energy storage system in Cubillos del Sil, Spain. The project, costing €6.4 million, is supported by the NextGenerationEU program. The system has a total capacity of approximately 15 MWh, sufficient to power about 1,500 French households daily, and integrates solar energy, three storage technologies, and two electrolyzers for green hydrogen production.

CIUDEN has completed tests on Europe's largest vanadium battery energy storage system located at the Technology Development Center in Cubillos del Sil, Spain. This €6.4 million project, funded by NextGenerationEU, features a capacity of around 15 MWh, capable of powering approximately 1,500 households daily.
The hybrid system combines solar photovoltaic energy, three distinct storage technologies, and two electrolyzers aimed at producing green hydrogen. This setup is unique in Europe and could play a vital role in stabilizing electrical grids and developing synthetic fuels.
