SPAINSAT NG II Satellite Impacted During Transfer; Contingency Plan Activated by Hisdesat
The SPAINSAT NG II satellite, operated by Hisdesat, was struck by a space particle during its transfer to orbit, 50,000 kilometers from Earth. Launched on October 23 from Cape Canaveral, the satellite's incident has not affected the operational communications of the Ministry of Defense.
Hisdesat has activated a contingency plan to maintain services for the Ministry and other clients. The technical team is assessing damage, and if required, a replacement satellite will be constructed. The SPAINSAT NG Program aims to modernize satellite communications for the Armed Forces by replacing existing systems with advanced satellites.
The satellites are manufactured by Airbus Defence and Space and Thales Alenia Space under a contract with Hisdesat. The Ministry of Defense will continue to collaborate with Hisdesat to ensure security and technological sovereignty in the space sector.
