The Sri Lanka Air Force conducted a rehearsal for helicopter landings at the Kandy President's House in preparation for President Anura Kumara Dissanayake's visit on February 6. Residents observed the helicopters for nearly two hours, causing some alarm.
During this visit, the President will initiate two development projects: the Mahaiyawa tunnel, costing Rs. 699.9 million, and the completion of the Getambe flyover, estimated at 40 million euros. Historically, the area behind the President's House was used for landings by former President J.R. Jayewardene, while subsequent presidents landed at the Asgiriya Police Grounds.
