Srisailam Power Plant Ceases Operations Amid Critical Water Levels
The Srisailam power plant's shutdown due to low water levels raises concerns of electricity shortages in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana as summer demand surges. With only 44 TMC of water remaining, reliance on alternative power sources may lead to increased costs.

Electricity generation at the Srisailam power plant has stopped due to critically low reservoir levels, impacting Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The reservoir's water storage is near dead storage, making hydropower generation unfeasible, with only 44 TMC available for use.
Both the right and left bank stations are non-operational, attributed to low rainfall and minimal inflows. Recent power generation levels had been high, with Andhra Pradesh generating 2060 million units and Telangana 2725 million units over the past ten months.
The shutdown heightens pressure on the electricity grid, likely necessitating increased reliance on thermal power or external electricity purchases, which may escalate costs. Consumer concerns about potential power shortages are growing as demand is projected to rise with the summer heat.
