St. Charles is pursuing a new contract for natural gas to heat all city facilities after rejecting a 20-year contract with coal-reliant IMEA. The previous natural gas contract expired, prompting the City Council to authorize Finance Director Bill Hannah to engage in the auction process for a two- or three-year agreement, with a budget of approximately $242,000.
The previous contract was acquired through a reverse auction managed by Transparent Energy. The new agreement will be finalized following the auction. Additionally, the city’s contract with IMEA, which powers the rest of St. Charles, is set to last until 2035, but officials plan to seek a new provider around 2029 or 2030.
