St. Cloud Launches Pilot Project to Eliminate PFAS in Wastewater Treatment
St. Cloud, Minnesota, is initiating a pilot project to destroy PFAS at its wastewater treatment plant. This effort aims to provide a potential solution for cities worldwide grappling with the persistence of 'forever chemicals' in the environment.

St. Cloud is set to test two methods to eliminate per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from sewage sludge prior to its application as fertilizer. This initiative follows the city’s reputation for innovative renewable-energy wastewater treatments and could offer a model for other municipalities aiming to prevent PFAS from contaminating water sources and agricultural land. Despite the challenges posed by PFAS's chemical stability, the project reflects a proactive approach to addressing environmental concerns linked to these substances, which have been prevalent in consumer products for decades.
