Standard Chartered Leads Financing for Vena Group's Opus Solar Project in the Philippines
Standard Chartered has facilitated the financing of the Opus Solar Energy Project in Ilocos Norte, a 300 MW solar facility. This initiative is pivotal for increasing the Philippines' renewable energy capacity and aligns with the government's Green Energy Auction Program.

Standard Chartered, as the mandated lead arranger, has financed Vena Group's Opus Solar Energy Project, a 300 MW solar photovoltaic plant in Ilocos Norte. This project aims to enhance the national grid through a 230 kV connection and is notable for being the first fully non-recourse renewable energy financing in the Philippines executed only with international banks.
The financing, linked to a 20-year energy purchase agreement with the National Transmission Corporation, positions the project as a significant contributor to the Department of Energy's goal of 3.4 GW of renewable capacity by 2026. The facility is expected to power approximately 445,000 households, while avoiding around 349,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually. The successful model established by this project may inspire future renewable initiatives in the region, particularly as demand for sustainable energy grows amid global climate commitments.
