Staples Canada Implements Autonomous Robots to Revamp E-Commerce Fulfillment Model
Staples Canada has overhauled its e-commerce fulfillment process by introducing autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) in its facilities. The company transitioned from a traditional picking system to a more modern approach, partnering with Locus Robotics to enhance productivity and employee experience. The first deployment occurred at a smaller fulfillment center, focusing on employee collaboration with the new technology. Following its success, Staples Canada expanded the rollout to its largest center near Toronto, resulting in doubled productivity and improved training efficiency.

Staples Canada has revamped its e-commerce fulfillment by implementing autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) from Locus Robotics. Previously reliant on manual picking methods, the company sought to enhance productivity and employee experience.
The first deployment took place at a smaller fulfillment center, focusing on collaboration with staff. Following its success, a larger rollout occurred at the Toronto fulfillment center, which accounted for nearly 50% of national e-commerce volume.
This transition resulted in doubled productivity and reduced training time to about 15 minutes. Collaboration with Locus Robotics has been emphasized throughout the process, fostering a strong partnership.
