Statkraft's Tagdale Plant to Export 15,000 Tonnes of Green Ammonia Every 15 Weeks from Lerwick
Statkraft plans to export 15,000 tonnes of green ammonia every 15 weeks from its Tagdale facility near Lerwick, with each shipment valued at over £9 million. The facility, utilizing 80MW of renewable energy for hydrogen production, is set to begin construction in late 2027 and aims for initial operations by late 2029, with the first exports in early 2030.

Statkraft has submitted a scoping report for its Tagdale green ammonia facility near Lerwick, aiming to export 15,000 tonnes of liquid ammonia every 15 weeks. The project includes a 160-meter jetty and the ability to pump ammonia onto ships for 20 hours.
The facility will produce green hydrogen and nitrogen, generating up to 185 tonnes of ammonia daily for fertilizer and marine fuel. Construction is expected to start in late 2027, with operations beginning by late 2029 and first exports in early 2030. The report outlines potential environmental impacts and mitigation strategies, including compliance with pollution prevention standards.
