Stegra's €3.3 Billion Green Steel Project in Sines Advances Industrial Sustainability
Stegra, formerly H2 Green Steel, plans a €3.3 billion green steel facility in Sines, enhancing industrial sustainability. The project is contingent on securing energy resources and regulatory approvals.

The Stegra project in Sines, Portugal, involves an investment of €3.3 billion for a green steel production facility. This initiative, named 'Sunna', aims to leverage hydrogen for steel production, reducing CO₂ emissions significantly compared to traditional methods.
The proposed facility's energy requirements range between 1,000 and 1,500 megawatts, necessitating substantial renewable energy resources. The region's deep-water port and infrastructure availability position Sines as a competitive site for large-scale investments.
Stegra, founded in 2021, is also advancing a similar project in Sweden with an annual capacity of 2.5 million tons of green steel. The implications for local industrial supply chains and the economy could be substantial, especially as demand for sustainable materials grows.
