Stewart Miller Resigns as CEO of National Robotarium Amid Funding Dispute
Stewart Miller has resigned from his position as CEO of the National Robotarium, citing the university's failure to pursue a £7.5 million funding opportunity as the key reason. His departure highlights tensions between leadership and institutional support for robotics initiatives in Scotland, raising concerns about future innovation and competitiveness in the sector.

Stewart Miller has resigned as CEO of the National Robotarium, effective immediately. His resignation follows Heriot-Watt University's decision not to apply for £7.5 million in grant funding from Innovate UK for robotic adoption hubs, an action Miller describes as undermining his five-year effort to establish the center's prominence in robotics and AI.
The National Robotarium, opened in 2022, is part of a broader initiative funded by £21 million from the UK government and £1.4 million from the Scottish government. Miller's departure could impact ongoing robotics development efforts in Scotland as he emphasized the critical need for adoption support and collaboration in the sector. The university disputes his characterization of the events and reaffirms its commitment to the center's success.
