Stirling Ranges Beef Farmer Implements Plastic Dam Lining to Enhance Water Conservation
Paul O'Meehan, a farmer at Stirling Ranges Beef in Western Australia, has installed plastic dam lining to improve water conservation amid drought conditions. The liner, similar to those used in mining, aims to reduce water loss from seepage and evaporation. The farm produces 8,000 to 10,000 head of beef annually, with expectations to increase to 11,000 by 2026. This innovation allows for capturing lower rainfall events, enhancing the farm's water retention capacity.

Paul O'Meehan, a Stirling Ranges Beef farmer in Western Australia, has installed plastic dam lining to conserve water due to drought conditions. The liner prevents seepage and evaporation, allowing the farm to capture more water from lower rainfall events, enhancing efficiency.
The farm currently produces 8,000 to 10,000 head of beef annually, with projected growth to 11,000 by 2026. The installation, completed by West Coast Lining Systems, involved one-millimetre-thick plastic secured in a trench. Early results show immediate water capture, prompting consideration for additional dam linings.
