STR Secures $9.6 Million DARPA Contract for Acoustic Warfare Systems Development

DEFENSE

Systems & Technology Research (STR) received a $9.6 million contract from the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) for phase two of the Willow program, which focuses on developing systems to counter enemy surface sonar.

STR will deploy counter-sonar payloads on uncrewed underwater vehicles, buoys, and other platforms for testing and validation at sea. The project builds on phase one, which demonstrated capabilities with a single node.

The cumulative contract value is now $20.5 million. The Willow program aims to enhance acoustic warfare techniques to deceive or disrupt enemy sonar systems through advanced signal processing and innovative payloads.
