Successful Maiden Flight of Dhruv-NG Helicopter Marks Milestone for Indian Aviation
The Advanced Light Helicopter Dhruv-NG successfully completed its maiden flight in Bengaluru on December 30, 2025, a significant achievement for India's civil and defense aviation sectors. Minister for Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu outlined a vision to ensure access to helicopters in every district and village, enhancing connectivity across the country.
The Dhruv-NG, capable of high-altitude operations and various roles including medical evacuation and VIP transport, is designed to meet projected demand of 1,000 to 1,500 helicopters in India. The indigenous development addresses long lead times from foreign suppliers and strengthens domestic manufacturing capabilities.
Safety features have been integrated based on past feedback, and state governments are showing interest in helicopter services. This flight is seen as a pivotal moment in India's push for self-reliance in aviation.
