Swan Defence Secures $227 Million Order for Six Chemical Tankers from Rederiet Stenersen AS
Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Ltd has secured a $227 million contract to build six IMO Type II chemical tankers for Rederiet Stenersen AS, marking one of India's largest commercial shipbuilding deals. The vessels, designed by Marinform AS and StoGda Ship Design & Engineering, will feature dual-fuel LNG-ready hybrid propulsion systems and are set to be constructed at SDHI's Pipavav shipyard in Gujarat, with the first delivery expected within 33 months. The contract also includes an option for six additional sister vessels.

Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Ltd (SDHI) has signed a $227 million contract to build six IMO Type II chemical tankers for European shipowner Rederiet Stenersen AS. This order, representing one of India's largest commercial shipbuilding contracts, will be executed at SDHI's Pipavav shipyard in Gujarat.
Each tanker will have a deadweight tonnage of 18,000, an overall length of approximately 150 meters, and a beam of around 23 meters. The vessels will be designed by Marinform AS and StoGda Ship Design & Engineering, classed by DNV, and equipped with dual-fuel LNG-ready hybrid propulsion systems.
The first tanker is expected to be delivered within 33 months, with additional vessels delivered at regular intervals. The contract includes an option for six more sister vessels. This marks Rederiet Stenersen AS's first newbuilding contract with an Indian shipyard.
